We were appointed to look into the aesthetic styling and mechanical construction of a bench top MRI unit for laboratory and research applications. ‘MR Solutions’, a world leading manufacturer of MRI spectrometer consoles based in Guildford, selected us because of our varied experience in product development and electronics integration. This new field of technology proved to be an exciting and challenging area of development. Working closely with MRI physicists and software specialists, coupled with a unique magnet design, we engineered a compact solution addressing issues raised by users.

MRI technology uses powerful magnetic fields to align the nuclear magnetisation of (usually) hydrogen atoms in water in the body. Unlike other methods of imaging internal body structures (such as CT), there is no ionising radiation involved.
MRI is a relatively new field of technology and the first Magnetic Resonance image was published in 1973.
